A spay or neuter procedure typically includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pre surgical evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full anesthesia and monitoring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pain medication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surgical removal of reproduction organs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post-operative monitoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The expertise to perform the surgery and to monitor the patient under anesthesia, the medications utilized, and the equipment are not without cost.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many pet owners wonder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypaws.com\/dogs-puppies\/health-care\/dog-neutering-spaying\/cost-to-spay-a-dog\">how much does it cost<\/a> to spay a dog or cat in California. There are a lot of variables including size of the pet, overall body condition, exact monitoring and services provided, and the cost of living in your area. In general, though, a spay procedure ranges from $100-$500 with cats and smaller dogs being on the lower end. Spaying or neutering your pet stops your home from contributing to this issue unintentionally.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eliminates risk of uterine infection:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Female pets who have not been spayed are at high risk for developing a serious, life-threatening infection in their uterus called a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.veterinarypartner.com\/Content.plx?P=A&amp;S=0&amp;C=0&amp;A=603\"> pyometra<\/a>. Removing the uterus eliminates this possibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decreases risk of mammary (breast) cancer:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Spaying your pet before her first heat cycle almost entirely prevents the development of breast cancer down the line. Even pets who are spayed after they have come into heat enjoy a dramatically decreased risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prevents testicular cancer:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>During a routine neuter procedure the testicles are removed, which removes the possibility for the development of testicular cancer. Intact male dogs are also at increased risk for<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mypetsdoctor.com\/perianal-gland-tumors-in-dogs\"> perianal gland tumors<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decreases prostate problems:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Male pets who are not neutered are more likely to suffer from<a href=\"http:\/\/healthypets.mercola.com\/sites\/healthypets\/archive\/2014\/04\/21\/benign-prostatic-hyperplasia.aspx\"> benign prostatic hyperplasia<\/a>, or BPH.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prevents roaming behavior:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Pets who are intact are more likely to get out of the yard and roam while looking for mates. This puts them at increased risk for being injured or lost.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Helps avoid behavioral issues:<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Hormones can contribute to behavioral issues such as increased vocalization during a heat cycle, urine marking, and roaming behaviors when in search of a mate.
